St. Cornelius knows keeping your children occupied with engaging, educational and fun activities once they finish their school work proves to be harder the longer we remain at home to do our part fighting COVID-19. We invite you to check out this list of live streams that will give you some time to yourself and provide an activity for your kids.
Each Monday at noon, former First Lady Michelle Obama reads a book, viewable on pbskids.org and the PBS Kids Facebook profile. This week (April 26), she reads There’s a Dragon in Your Book by Tom Fletcher. See last week's read here. If you’re looking for more videos like this, follow the hashtag #SaveWithStories to see more familiar faces reading children’s books.
Physical activity and exercise play an important role in your child’s life, and their school curriculum. While students are learning at home, they might be lacking their physical education. An Old City-based trainer, Noel Davis, offers 30- to 40-minute fitness classes for children of all ages for free on her website. Davis offers these classes twice each weekday, and they require no extra equipment. For parents looking for at home classes, Davis also offers adult classes at a fee.
Like PE, the arts also plays an integral part of a well-rounded education. Mural arts live streams on Zoom (via their website) and their Facebook Monday’s and Wednesday’s at 1 pm. Live stream subjects include basic sketching, advanced coloring, sewing, poetry and more.
Our current lives under COVID-19 have been tough, so celebrate the end of your at-home school day with a daily dance on the Kidz Bop YouTube Channel each weekday at 3 pm.
Liz Filios, a musician and producer with the Theatre Horizon, may be able to fill the shoes of your child’s pre-K or kindergarten teacher with her Facebook Live videos. These 25-minute videos feature stories, songs, dances and more.
This one is fun for the whole family. At 7 pm on the Phillie Phanatic’s Instagram, manager Joe Girardi reads a bedtime story. This Wednesday (April 29), he reads The Phanatic’s Best Rain Delay Ever.
Be sure to take advantage of these live streams! This digital content makes good use of screen time, and continues to stimulate their minds and bodies outside of school work.
